Week 3

Certificates
During week 3

Harper and Eden received certificates for commitment to their learning.
Well Done!

Oh my goodness, what a windy week this turned out to be!

Amy made an amazing picture out of shapes to show the class for oral language.
Don't forget to bring your favourite story book and read a page to us next week for oral language.

In our writing we are learning how to describe a character and this week we described our friends. We are working towards writing narratives. We expect to have some interesting stories coming home by the end of the term.

In Geometry we have been learning about shapes. Last week during road safety we learnt that many shapes are used to make road signs and street names. This week we have learnt about 2D and 3D shapes. We went to the hall and built 3D shapes with our friends. It was fun to see all the different shapes people made. Some children put their shapes together and made a house using a cube and a pyramid.
Mrs Kelly gave us our instructions and then we went to work.
We took our templates and cut around the outside line.

After that we started to paste the little sides together. Some of us found this quite tricky, but we used our resilience and gave it a good go.

It took lots of concentration to fold and glue the pieces in place.

Week 2

Certificates
During week 2

William and Dayton received certificates for commitment to their learning
Well Done!

On Friday we visited had the most amazing visit to MOTAT. Even though it was raining we were very excited to be going on a trip.
We visited MOTAT to find out more about light and colour, both man made and natural. Our room had the first lesson.

We discovered that some people are colour blind and don't see colours like we do. We also looked through glasses to see 3D dinosaurs and used a kaleidoscope to see patterns.

At this table we used prisms to reflect
 light to make a rainbow.
Here we saw how different objects change the way we see things.
The big silver disc showed the pictures upside down.

3D printer making a fish

Playing with the toys the printer had made.

The teachers enjoying the morning tea break.

Exploring the pump house

We all had a wonderful time in the "get started zone"
There were so many pulleys, gears and interesting things to do.

Global Road Safety week.

On Thursday Rochelle from Auckland Transport visited the Year 2 classrooms.
She taught us why it is so important to wear safety belts and that you need to be 148 cm or taller to wear a seat belt properly. The safety belts in a car are designed for adults and that is why it is good for children to use booster seats.

Teddy demonstrated what would happen if we did not wear our seat belts.
He was much safer when he "made it click".

On Wednesday we had the opportunity of experiencing inflatable football. It was serious work trying to get a goal for our teams. The competition was fierce but we all had lots of fun. Some of us played for the first time and so we learnt some new skills.

With the high sides we didn't have to worry about the ball
going down the hill.

Week 1

Our certificates went to Tally and Eloise this week. Well done ladies,
we are proud of the commitment you are make to your work.

Welcome to room 7 Blake we are so pleased you
have joined our class. We hope you have a wonderful time with us.

This term we are learning about light and colour. We started the term experimenting with man-made light.
Using the basic circuit concepts from science, we used a simple circuit to switch the light bulb on.

We chose a variety of wires, clips, little globes and batteries
to try and make a simple electrical circuit.

Some circuits were easier to make than others and we had to make sure
the battery had enough charge to allow the globe to glow.

There was a great amount of communicating, experimenting and encouragement from our friends. Everyone used our learning powers of curiosity, collaboration and resilience.

All our equipment was supplied by our school,
to give us some extraordinary experiences.

We were delighted when the light switched on.
